About the Chef
Hello, and welcome to At the Table blog! My name is Sarah Tocco and I have been a professional Chef for over 17 years. Starting when I was old enough to climb up on counters, I would be seated in the kitchen watching my mother cook everything in our from-scratch kitchen. Forever inspired by both the beauty and science of food, I took that path down many lanes before culminating into my own unique style of small plates, meant to share. From my years as a Pastry Chef, to diving deep into nutrition and community-supported-agriculture, to wedding catering, to small plates at a brewery, to my absolute love and adoration for all things Italy, my culinary prowess speaks of my own unique journeys. It combines sweet and savory, fresh with fermented, farms with the backyard, and finishes as joy in the form of edible art.
There is something magical about food. It’s communal ways of joining people through a commonality; an express and very human need to gather and dine. There is something even more magical about being a chef and having your hands create this sustenance of humanity. It’s the sizzle of a frying pan, the heat of the kitchen, the exhaustion at the end of frenzied and hectic weekend, the end of the night with the kitchen’s cacophony still loud in your ears as you feel every muscle in your body.
Yet, it is addictive; a lure that brings you back again and again. The lure is the joy of creation, the giddiness of having a vision and seeing it realized, and the customers as they peek their heads into the kitchen and say, “good job, Chef!”
Food is romance. It is sitting on decks where the warm breeze brings with it the smell of garlic and seduction. Where wine glasses catch the glint of the receding sun and laughter joins in unison with sounds of distant music and the clanks of silverware against plates. It’s the rainbow of sauces that remain on an empty plate; the signature that succeeds satisfaction.
Together with my husband, a classically-trained European Pastry Chef, and two foodie daughters, our house is one of laughter and joy around a table. Everything I am, everything I feel, is discussed with a meal; it is my emotion and my heart on a plate. I am excited to offer some of these things to you, so that your hands, too, can create these moments that bring such joy to your homes and communities. So we can all have a seat ... At The Table.
